Guidelines for consumers: Special prices for the disabled and senior citizens
Operators help senior citizens and the disabled by offering special pricing plans. These mean that discounts of up to several hundred crowns can be provided.
The offers available to senior citizens and the disabled come in different forms – for example a tariff only provided to senior citizens, a discount on the standard tariff or a contribution from the state. The Czech Telecommunication Office has prepared an overview of these special offers, together with valuable advice on how to save money.

According to Act No. 127/2005 Coll. on electronic communications and amending certain related acts (“Act on Electronic Communications”), as amended, the Czech Telecommunication Office is authorised to impose such obligations and measures on business undertakings – the providers of a universal service – to make sure that the availability of a telephone service is provided equally for as broad a spectrum of persons as possible in terms of affordability and availability to people with handicaps. Up-to-date information about the decisions taken by CTU in this area and other related information is available in this section.
The Council of the Czech Telecommunication Office issued, on 7.6.2011, a decision to impose the obligation to allow people with special social needs in accordance with Section 44 and Section 45 of Act on Electronic Communications which differ from the price plans provided under ordinary commercial conditions within a universal service.
A press release in the issue in question was published on 20.6.2011: Issue of a decision on the imposition of the obligation to provide special prices within a universal service according to Section 38(3) of the Act on Electronic Communications. The full press release can be found here. The full decision is available here.
