Equipment classes

Radio and telecommunications terminal equipment is divided into two classes based on Commission Decision 2000/299/EC of 6 April 2000 establishing the initial classification of radio equipment and telecommunications terminal equipment and associated identifiers. For the purposes of Directive 2014/53/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 April 2014 on the harmonisation of the laws of the Member States relating to the making available on the market of radio equipment and repealing Directive 1999/5/EC the division of the equipment shall be similar.

Class 1 includes the following equipment:

  1. Radio receivers,
  2. the listed types of radio transmitters (whose operation is fully controlled by their own network infrastructure) listed on the European Communications Office (ECO) website
  3. the listed types of radio transmitters (operated in bands harmonised throughout the EU) listed in the European Commission document „Publication in accordance with Article 1(3) of Commission Decision 2000/299/EC“.

Class 2 includes other equipment.

Requirements for Class 2 equipment:

  • Equipment that has been assessed for conformity according to Directive 1999/5/EC (Government Order No. 426/2000 Coll.) must be marked with an identification sign ("Alert sign - exclamation mark in a circle"). For equipment that has been assessed for conformity according to Directive 2014/53/EU (Government Order No. 426/2016 Coll.), the identification sign is a pictogram according to Commission Regulation 2017/1354.
  • shall state (on the packaging and in the instructions for use) in which EU countries the equipment can be operated without restrictions or with an individual permit,
  • their placing on the market shall be notified pursuant to Article 4(6) of Government Order No. 426/2000 Coll., laying down technical requirements for radio and telecommunications terminal equipment, as amended (corresponding to Article 6.4 of Directive 1999/5/EC). For equipment with conformity assessment pursuant to Directive 2014/53/EU (Government Order No. 426/2016 Coll.), the method of registration will be determined by 12 June 2018.
