The Office has verified fulfilment of obligations arising from 4G auction. They are fulfilled, but some "but(s)" remain

Prague, 8 November 2021 - The Czech Telecommunications Office measured the fulfilment of the development criteria concerning the coverage of highways, speed roads and railway corridors, to which operators, successful in the tender on released frequencies for LTE networks in the bands 800 MHz,1800 MHz and 2600 MHz, have committed themselves in 2014. Operators have fulfilled their obligations. Nevertheless, the problem persists with the signal inside the railway wagons.

The measured coverage results show that all three network mobile operators met the conditions of the development criteria for railway corridor coverage at the time of measurement, i.e. an 80% coverage level was achieved. The problem persists with the signal inside the railway wagons. The most appropriate solution, which has long been advocated by CTU, would clearly be the installation of so-called repeaters in railway wagons.

For highways and speed roads coverage, the conditions of the development criteria were also met, with a level of coverage of more than 90% for all roads.

We are aware that the vast majority of operators have fulfilled the commitments in the minimum possible way and that, given the rapid development of the telecommunications market, earlier criteria may already be perceived as insufficient. In the 5G auction, the criteria were set more strictly", said Hana Továrková, CTU Council Chair.

For the purpose of presenting the results of the measurement, the measured values were processed in an application which is publicly available on: http://qos.ctu.cz/.
