PRESS RELEASE: CTU Council supported precise localization for emergency calls made from mobile networks

Prague, 5 June 2020 – On 2 June 2020, the Council of the Czech Telecommunication Office adopted Measure of General Nature No. SP/3/06.2020-8, amending conditions in the network plan for public communications networks signals for possible implementation of the so-called AML function (Advanced Mobile Location) to improve locating emergency calls made from mobile devices with Android and iOS operation systems.

This amendment was prepared on the basis of a discussion on providers of Public Safety Answering Points and undertakings in the electronic communications needs. It newly implements a possibility to initiate a connection with emergency line via so-called Emergency Call Setup, i.e., by initiating a call to emergency line using the operation system functionality of the mobile device and analysis of the called number. If the mobile device recognizes, that the user dialled an emergency number, it identifies and establishes connection to emergency line using a specific priority channel.

The measure, previously consulted with stakeholders, was published on 3 June 2020 in the Telecommunication Bulletin 06/2020 and enters into force on fifteenth day after publication.
