PRESS RELEASE: CTU has completed the auction of frequencies in 700 MHz and 3400–3600 MHz bands
Prague, 13 November 2020 – End of the auction phase of the tender for granting of the rights to use radio frequencies in the 700 MHz and 3400–3600 MHz frequency bands. The auctioned frequencies will be distributed among 5 undertakings.
Today, CTU successfully completed the auction phase of bidding on particular auction blocks offered in the frequency bands for future 5G networks, with the following results:
In the 700 MHz band, O2 Czech Republic a.s. gained the 2x10 MHz block connected with the commitment to provide national roaming and PPDR services for public emergency and security bodies.
Other blocks in the 700 MHz band were acquired by T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s. and Vodafone Czech Republic a.s.
In the 3400-3600 MHz band, blocks of 20 MHz connected with the commitment to lease frequencies to support Industry 4.0 were gained by O2 Czech Republic a.s. and CentroNet, a.s. Other successful applicants in this band ware T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s., Vodafone Czech Republic a.s. and Nordic Telecom 5G a.s.
All the offered blocks were successfully allocated in the auction. Even if all the participants were active in the bidding, in the end, two undertakings were not successful - PODA a.s. and Sev.en Innovations a.s.
“Results of the auction phase and the interest expressed for the offered frequencies show that the tender conditions were rightly designed for reaching the envisaged goals. The fact that new operators will both strengthen their position and newly enter in the 3400-3800 MHz band, is certainly good news for fostering competition. The total gain in the auction is 5,596 milliard CZK which is a higher sum than expected”, said Hana Továrková, the CTU Council Chair.
The auctioned frequencies are important for further technological innovation in the Czech mobile market, above all for the development of 5G networks.
Information on the auction phase and its results are published on the Electronic Notice Board.
