PRESS RELEASE: EC approved CZ notification to compensate net costs to Česká pošta

Prague, 25 July 2022 – European Commission issued the long-awaited decision in the case of notification of the Czech Republic to compensate to Česká pošta the net costs for its universal service obligations over the period of 2018-2022 in maximum amount of 7,5 billion CZK.

“We are glad that this decision was finally adopted, and the enormous amount of work and communication led to a positive result. It is also beneficial that the process was completed before the decision on new postal licence holder,” claimed the CTU Council Chair, Ms Hana Továrková.

The Commission has assessed the draft measure under EU State aid rules, and in particular under Article 106(2) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, as well as the rules on public service compensation, under the Service of General Economic Interest (‘SGEI') Framework and the Postal Services Directive.
